Successful weekend for Medaglia, Chisholm, and Bles in Prince George
Royal Distributing Motovan Piller’s Racing presented by Huber Motorsports’ Tyler Medaglia, Kyle Chisholm, and Nathan Bles can look back on a successful MX1 weekend at Round 2 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, which were held on Sunday in Prince George, British Columbia.
Medaglia and Chisholm claimed respectful top-10 overall finishes, with sixth on the strength of 7-6 motos and seventh on the strength of 6-7 motos respectively. For his part, Bles recorded 11th overall, thanks to his 12-10 results. When all was said and done in Prince George, the Royal Distributing Motovan Piller’s Racing presented by Huber Motorsports’ teammates left town holding down top-10 slots in the points provisional standings.
Although there had been a lot of talk about the new national venue, Blackwater MX Track, before the start of the season – some favourable, some less favourable – the inaugural event went off without a hitch. Even the weather cooperated, reaching a comfortable racing high of 21°C (70°F), with intermittent cloud cover.
The track itself, which is a challenging natural contour and terrain layout, carved on the side of a large hill, is reminiscent of more traditional motocross tracks. Everyone on team Royal Distributing Motovan Piller’s Racing presented by Huber Motorsports was duly impressed with the track and the organization of the event.
In the first moto of the day, Medaglia, consistency personified, got off to a blazing start on his Honda CRF450R, rounding turn 1 in fifth place, two spots behind Chisholm and five ahead of Bles.
Although Medaglia took over fourth place before the end of the lap, like Chisholm and Bles he was unable to take his auspicious starting position to the finish line. After running in fourth for a few laps, he found himself in sixth place; two laps after that in seventh. Despite pouring on the gas the best he could do was defend his seventh place all the way to the finish line from a pesky eighth place riding Cade Clason.
Chisholm motored around the track in third place until lap 6, when he was relegated to fourth by fellow American Dillan Epstein. On lap 8 Chisholm dropped two more positions to sixth, where he remained a fair distance ahead of Medaglia right up to the checkered flag.
Bles, meanwhile, traded his 10th starting position for 11th place on the first lap. The Bayfield, ON resident ran there for a few laps until he was relegated to 13th place, which he swapped for his finishing position of 12th around the halfway point of the moto.
Up front the action centered around former World Champion Christophe Pourcel, who led the entire moto until the closing laps, only to lose it to Matt Goerke who had occupied second place from the get-go. Epstein sealed the podium in third place.
The start of the second moto proved to be less favourable for Medaglia than the first moto, diving into turn 1 in 11th place. The Ottawa native transformed that position into sixth by the end of lap 1, however, running his own race there until the finish line, at once cementing his sixth overall on the day.
Chisholm also found himself a bit farther back at the start of moto 2, taking turn 1 in 10th place. This was three positions behind Bles who grabbed his best start of the season so far by claiming seventh going into the first turn. While Florida’s Chisholm quickly worked his way into seventh place, where he ran for most of the race till the finish line, Bles went from seventh to 10th, then to 11th, to finally return to 10th, which would be his finishing position.
At the head of the pack the main action for first place was again the domain of Goerke and Pourcel. This time it was Goerke, however, who lost the lead to Pourcel on the final lap, after dominating most of the moto. Multi-time MX1 Champion Colton Facciotti sealed the podium in third place.
The Rockstar Energy Drink CMRC Motocross Nationals continue Sunday, June 18th at Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary, Alberta for Round 3 of the points chase.

About Piller’s – A Proud Heritage: In 1957, Wilhelm Huber opened a small butcher shop in Waterloo, Ontario using family recipes and traditional European meat processing methods to provide his customers with authentic, great-tasting European deli meats. Two years later, his brothers Edward and Heinrich joined the company, which became Piller’s Sausages and Delicatessens Limited.
From those humble beginnings, Piller’s has become one of North America’s largest producers of European sausages and deli meats, famous for award-winning products such as Black Forest ham and air-dried salamis. To this day, after five generations of sausage makers, Piller’s still uses the same natural aging, curing, and smoking process that had customers lining up outside Wilhelm Huber’s butcher shop over 60 years ago. The company was acquired by Premium Brands Holdings Corporation in 2011 and is now known as Piller’s Fine Foods.
